Learning German is not easy, in fact, I have to admit, it is quite challenging. When was your first day you started to learn the language? Or actually: when was the day you decided to learn German? And what have you done in the meantime to reach that goal?
Each and every one of us needs something else, a different combination of learning techniques, input, guidance and support in learning a new language. Visiting a course helps with guidance and learning together with others can be great fun. The pace is one for the whole group though and many students give up learning because their classes do not fit their needs: Too much information or too little, too fast or too slow, to theoretical or not structured enough.
This is why sometimes it’s good to have some „alone-time“ with your German.
Schedule a time in your calendar, for example an hour each week, when you spend some quality time with your German skills. Give them the attention they deserve and give yourself time to find out what you already know and what questions come up while you are reading, listening, looking at patterns or going through exercises. This way you don’t only improve your skills step-by-step but you are also aware of your capabilities, which, in turn, helps your self-confidence and gives you the chance to ask specific questions in class. So, when do you want to start with your alone-time with your German?
